Spotted in Seattle: Signs of The Times
posted by Noah at 1:28 PM
Seattle has some of the odder street signs I've seen in the US. Sadly I wasn't able to catch a picture of the ominous one that said "Litter And It Will Hurt", but here are a few of the others I encountered...

An honorable mention goes to the stop signs with their cute stripes, but hard to follow directions. I certainly can't eyeball what 30 feet looks like, and there was no indication on the sidewalk of that distance either.

hey Noah,
30 feet is 10 meters.
Much better now, right ;)

I visited the Emerald City over Memorial Day last year (and most heartily enjoyed it). Sure enough, I was fascinated/intrigued by some of the strange street signs and concepts from in around Seattle (I only recognized one from your list, but it made me think):
1. The "candy-striped" stop sign posts.
2. The "safety belt law enforced" sign on the highway that for some strange reason also had to specify "day and night"
3. The "push to walk buttons" that are parallel, rather than perpendicular to the direction of travel.
4. The stop sign in Port Townsend with the sign underneath stating that a right turn without stopping is permitted.
5. The street in downtown (forgot which one) that is two-way for one segment, but turns into one-way in the middle of the block, forcing traffic in one direction to make a U-turn!
I still wonder about these... Thanks for bringing back the memories!
