The parody real estate site Squat 2 Own Realty is actually the product of anarchists in Richmond, Virgina who are commenting on the state of homelessness and the current economy which has left so many livable houses intentionally empty. And hey, with the actual vacant property listings, perhaps a few desperate folks will really give it a try.

Squat2Own might be parodic, but I hope they do take direct action to confront the housing crisis. Take Back the Land, based in Miami, has been housing homeless families in foreclosed homes recently, having staged a successful takeover of government land in 2006. I read founder Max Rameau's book recently, after meeting him in Baltimore - Squat2Own would definitely benefit from their lessons learned!
