AfriGadget

posted by Noah at 9:50 AM

With the tagline "Solving everyday problems with African ingenuity" the AfriGadget blog is a refreshing change from the typical images we see of "poor" Africans. The site is edited by a diverse group of people, many of whom grew up in Kenya. Not only do they post items they found themselves, but they have even started their own Grassroots Reporting Project.

Recent posts include parafin lamps made from used tin cans, a DIY band created to pay for school (left), and something they call (ahem) F-art. (also shown: Togolese Bottle Opener and Ugandan Village Toy)

Blog Action Day: October 15th

posted by Noah at 11:39 AM
The second annual Blog Action Day is fast approaching. This year the topic is Poverty. The folks behind the campaign are hoping to harness the power of blogging to get a global dialogue on big issues. Bloggers are encouraged to sign up on the Blog Action Day site and then make a poverty related post on October 15th (and even donate that day's ad revenue to a related charity).

I'm back!

posted by Noah at 12:48 PM
Sorry for the long silence from me here. I just wrapped up my year long blog project Skull-A-Day and it was consuming all of my blogging ability at the end. Now that it's moved on to phase 2.0 I'll be back to posting here with much more regularity. I have a large backlog of items I'm excited to share with you, so please keep checking back!

Thanks,
Noah
