ACTION
WHY?
Do you like junk mail? Are the products advertised necessary? If
we are exposed to over 5,000 ads each day, how many do you think
the next generation will have to deal with? The Design Rebels class
invites you to question advertising in your environment. We encourage
you to change things for yourself and be an example for others.
WHAT
WE DID
On Monday May 3, 2004 the VCU Design Rebels class held peaceful demonstrations in an attempt to raise awareness of the invasion of advertising in the daily lives of Richmonders. The rebels raised eyebrows and awareness as they wore bright orange screen-printed shirts made by students in the class. The shirts, sporting the metaphoric black sheep logo on the sleeve, read "Ads invading your space?" on the front, and "Every day the average Amercian sees over 5,000 advertisements." on the back. The students interviewed passerbys, as well as provided information and stickers at the following locations:
11AM
@ Shafer and VCU campus (on the compass outside of Hibbs)
12 Noon @ 1100 Block off East Main near Bank of
America Building.
JOIN
US MONDAY, MAY 10th at 9am in room 317 of the VCU Pollak
art building for a press conference to discuss our project.
